Preparing the Property for Sale

Most homes are not ready for immediately ready for sale; curb appeal is a home’s first impression. The following is a list of items that should be considered when putting a home on the market:

  • Interior walls should be neutral colors
  • Closets should be cleaned and organized to allow full view of the space available; bulging closets indicate a lack of storage
  • All fixtures should work properly; all burnt out light bulbs should be replaced
  • Leaking faucets, squeaky doors, torn and missing windows screens and broken fences should be corrected
  • Mow and water lawns and flower beds
  • Remove weeds and plant extra flowers or shrubs
  • Prune trees and shrubs
  • Clear out all debris
  • Cover bare dirt with bark or gravel
  • Remove any moss from the roof and gutters
  • Repair broken fences; clear decks and porches
  • Repaint if necessary and feasible
  • Remove toys from all walkways allowing free movement to all perspective buyers
  • Organize the garage, shop and sheds
  • Remove any old vehicles
  • Remove and organize clutter from all rooms, especially the kitchen
  • Replace outdated or ratted carpets and wallpaper
  • Update outdated hardware on drawers and cabinets

The most important thing you can do when selling your home is keep it clean
