The historic district of Fairhaven is a picturesque neighborhood in South Bellingham with a farmer's market and a variety of funky shops and restaurants. Although it was incorporated in 1903, Fairhaven actually dates back as far as 1880. Many of the original buildings from this period have been beautifully preserved. Even today, all new building designs are required to reflect this 19th century style; as a result, Fairhaven real estate includes some very unique homes.
Conveniently situated between the I-5 and Boulevard Park, Fairhaven is also home to Western Washington University and the adjoining Sehome Arboretum. Its central location is close to both the airport, Lake Samish, and Larrabee State Park. However, Fairhaven's real charm is its architecture: homes here range from recently built family homes overlooking Bellingham Bay, to beautifully restored homes built in the 1890s. Remember that all new buildings are designed to mirror the beauty of Fairhaven's heritage, so whether your home was built in the 1890's or the 1990's, it'll be a classic Fairhaven home.
